The future is taking shape at Portal North Bridge! The Fall Cutover is entering its third week, with Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT crews and their contractor working around the clock to transform the railroad infrastructure surrounding the new bridge.
Over the past two weeks, crews have removed old track and overhead power infrastructure, installed new track on the west side of the new bridge, and set three new bridge sections that will carry the new track alignment between Portal North Bridge and Secaucus Station.
And another historic transition is now underway: the 116-year-old Portal Bridge has been handed over for demolition, clearing the way for the next phase of work.
It’s an exciting time for the Portal North Bridge Project and the Northeast Corridor. Stay tuned as the Fall Cutover continues!
