Amtrak Thruway Bus Connection Moves to New Location in Jacksonville, N.C.

Service links customers to national rail network

WASHINGTON – The Amtrak Thruway Bus Service stop is now located at the Jacksonville Station, at 1300 N. Marine Blvd. The bus provides convenient and affordable service to and from the Amtrak Station in Wilson, N.C., where customers can connect to Amtrak trains serving western North Carolina, Raleigh, Savannah, Ga., Charleston, S.C., Virginia, the Northeast including Washington, D.C., and New York, and more than 1,000 other stations nationwide.

The Amtrak North Carolina Thruway buses operate two routes:  one travels to Morehead City, with stops in Greenville, New Bern and Havelock, and the second travels to Wilmington, with stops in Goldsboro, Kinston and Jacksonville.

“The Amtrak Thruway Bus Connection offers customers in eastern North Carolina a seamless and coordinated service to connect to Amtrak and travel on our national network,” Senior Director Service Planning Jason Maga said. “Passengers getting on or off the Amtrak Thruway Bus service now will have the benefit of utilizing a new state-of-the-art facility while traveling.”

Sunway Charters operates the Thruway Bus connection in vehicles equipped with electrical outlets and comfortable seating.

Amtrak Thruway Connecting services make coordinated connections with trains and enable passengers to use other carriers to connect with the Amtrak national network from cities without rail stations. Amtrak has produced a short video showing how easy it is to use an Amtrak Thruway Bus.

“The city is excited to partner with Amtrak to provide Thruway Bus Service at Jacksonville Station. For a number of years, the Thruway service has provided safe, affordable and convenient passenger railway access to our community,” Anthony Prinz, Transportation Services Director for the City of Jacksonville, said. “As the new home base for Amtrak, Jacksonville Station now adds a touch of the city’s hospitality to the Thruway experience.”
