Downeaster Preparing for Increase of Customers During Thanksgiving Travel Period

PORTLAND, ME – The Thanksgiving travel season will soon be underway and the Amtrak Downeaster is prepared to accommodate holiday travelers during the busiest travel week of the year.  Tickets sell out quickly, so customers are encouraged to book reservations early.

The Downeaster, managed by Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA) and operated by Amtrak, provides intercity passenger rail service between Brunswick, Maine and Boston, MA, offering transportation choices to driving on congested highway corridors like I-95, I-295 and Route 1.

The Amtrak Downeaster makes five round-trips each day between Brunswick and Boston, and will operate full schedules during the Thanksgiving week. “Serving twelve communities in three states, customers can sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery while getting to their holiday destination of choice,” said NNEPRA Marketing Director, Natalie Bogart said. “This year for Thanksgiving, Amtrak Downeaster customers can also do something good for the environment while traveling with ease to family, friends and loved ones.”

Being able to easily travel from/to city centers, the Downeaster offers the freedom to use phones and electronic devices (no “airplane mode”), the ability to travel with small pets, large spacious seats with ample leg room, a generous baggage policy.

The Downeaster offers 50% off for seniors (65 and over) as well as kids (ages 12 and under). Additional discounts are available as well, but typically require a reservation at least 3 days in advance of travel.
