Activation on BNSF subdivisions is Amtrak’s first host-owned territory implemented with PTC

WASHINGTON – Amtrak, in coordination with BNSF Railway, will implement Positive Train Control (PTC) over several BNSF-owned subdivisions this week, marking the first activation on host-owned territory used by Amtrak.

Amtrak to Improve National Network Locomotive Fleet

New or rebuilt locomotives will provide more reliable service, a smoother ride and improved safety features

WASHINGTON – With demand for Amtrak service at record levels, Amtrak is moving to either acquire new locomotives or rebuild its current diesel fleet of locomotives to supplement and replace its aging National Network diesel locomotive fleet used on Long Distance and some State Supported routes.

In a Request for Proposals (RFP), Amtrak is seeking to rebuild its current diesel fleet or purchase a minimum of 50 to 75 next-generation locomotives, with options to rebuild or acquire additional units. The locomotives will offer the latest safety features, have more horsepower, and the lowest emissions possible.

Amtrak Debuts Assigned Seat Offering for Acela First Class

New initiative provides seamless onboarding process, allowing customers to select their preferred seat before boarding

NEW YORK – Amtrak is now offering assigned seating for customers traveling in Acela First class on select departures. Assigned seating will allow customers to select their preferred seat in First class ahead of time: choosing between a single or double seat, a window or an aisle, or a two- or four-person conference table. After evaluating this launch, Amtrak will introduce seat assignments on more departures in 2018.
