Amtrak joins Connecticut DOT groundbreaking for major rail improvement project

Amtrak Executive Vice President for Strategy and Planning Jennifer Mitchell joined Connecticut Department of Transportation, Governor Ned Lamont, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Rep. Rosa DeLauro, Stratford Mayor David Chess and Metro-North Railroad’s Joe Lagana for the groundbreaking of TIME FOR CT, a comprehensive plan to improve Connecticut’s rail network.

Amtrak has a large presence in Connecticut. Every day, Amtrak operates more than 50 intercity trains across four routes, supporting over 2 million passengers a year.

These improvements will result in faster trips, greater reliability, and a better experience for every passenger. Amtrak is thrilled to support the improvements made through TIME FOR CT, contributing funding, technical expertise, and planning and coordination support.

Thanks to support from our partners at the Federal Railroad Administration, Amtrak is also embarking on a new era of rail, including additional investments in Connecticut.

For example, Amtrak is replacing the 119-year-old Connecticut River Bridge, one of the most significant rail infrastructure projects in the Northeast. And in Norwalk, CT, Amtrak has contributed a portion of the funding for Connecticut DOT’s replacement of Walk Bridge.
