Amtrak Scholarships Advance the Future of Rail

Scholarships support students with an active rail interest

WASHINGTON – Amtrak is proud to announce it will award 11 scholarships to advance the future of rail through the Amtrak Scholarship Program. The scholarships aim to help full-time undergraduate and graduate students who are passionate about rail. Students must submit applications by Jan. 31 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

“As we continue to revolutionize the Amtrak experience, hiring to address significant demand is essential,” said Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer Qiana Spain. “Amtrak is creating a talent pipeline to invest in the future and address this new era of rail.”

Amtrak’s move to the future includes acquiring new Acela and Amtrak Airo trains, service expansion, station upgrades, major infrastructure projects, modernization efforts and improved track capacity along the Northeast Corridor.

To support and encourage achievement in rail, scholarships include:

  • High School Students who identify as:
    • Hispanic/Latinx
    • African American
    • Asian American/Pacific Islander
  • Women in STEM: Students pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree majoring in science, technology, engineering or math
  • Engineering: Students with an interest in rail engineering
  • IT: Students in information technology, computer science or a similar field
  • Non-Technical: Students in business, finance, marketing, supply chain or a similar field
  • Philip Randolph: For children, spouses, civil union partners or domestic partners of Amtrak employees, retirees or furloughed employees

Candidates are encouraged to submit more than one application. Scholarships will help full time students with tuition, fees, books, and/or equipment. Students from urban, suburban and rural communities are equally encouraged to apply and submit a scholarship application.

Amtrak also has programs for paid internships and co-ops for both undergraduate and graduate students as well as Apprenticeship Programs for those looking for entry-level learning opportunities. Offering competitive wages, Amtrak aims to convert 50% of all eligible interns to full-time roles. This includes early career rotational programs in finance, human resources, IT, marketing, safety and engineering.
