Amtrak San Joaquins Provides Special Service to Allensworth

Receive 30 percent off when booking trip to re-dedication event in celebration of African American history

STOCKTON, Calif. – In honor of Allensworth, the only California town to be founded, financed and governed by African Americans, Amtrak San Joaquins is offering special service to one of the year’s most commemorative events. Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park is holding a celebratory re-dedication event on Saturday, October 12 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Customers can board the Amtrak San Joaquins train from Southern California, the Bay Area, Sacramento and points in between to take part in the annual celebration, featuring live history, square dancing, self-guided tours of historic buildings, historic games with prizes and entertainment.

Customers can save 30 percent off ticket purchases when booking the following trains that will take customers to Allensworth on October 12. Amtrak San Joaquins will also offer discounts for small or large groups that are attending the event:

  • Northbound: Train 713, 715, 717, 719
  • Southbound: Train 712, 714, 702, 710

The annual re-dedication is presented to renew the commitment of the citizens of California to help the Department of Parks and Recreation preserve the ethnically diverse history of the state. The town of Allensworth is located in the heart of the Central Valley, about 30 miles north of Bakersfield. In 1908, Allensworth was established as a town founded, financed and governed by African Americans. Today the town is celebrated as a key historic icon and in 1974 California State Parks purchased the land to maintain it as a site for visitors to learn and explore Colonel’s house, historic schoolhouse, Baptist church and library.

Visitors interested in attending the re-dedication event can take Amtrak San Joaquins to the Allensworth station. From there, customers will be met by a free shuttle for a short ride to the main property.
