WASHINGTON – Amtrak has informed federal, state and local officials along the route of the daily Southwest Chief that, with the enactment of the recent full-year funding bill by Congress, it will provide matching funds to enable a federal grant to be awarded for safety and reliability upgrades on the train’s route in Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico.

NEW YORK – The Amtrak Board of Directors has approved an agreement with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to advance two key proposed initiatives: Metro-North commuter rail service to and from New York Penn Station and Amtrak intercity passenger rail service to and from Long Island.
Amtrak Board of Directors today appointed Kevin Winters as the new Amtrak inspector general, effective immediately. He succeeds Tom Howard, who will retire after four decades of experience in senior federal accountability positions.
