Contemporary Dining Improvements on Two Amtrak Routes

Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited sleeping car customers now have three hot entrées and deluxe breakfast choices

WASHINGTON – Dining choices for sleeping car customers on Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited trains will include more hot entrées and improved breakfast options, starting this week.

“We continuously improve and enhance our offerings,” said Peter Wilander, Amtrak Vice President, Product Development and Customer Experience. “Our customers say they want high-quality food with good variety — and we are listening.”

Sleeping car customers can choose the following, with meals delivered to their Bedrooms or Roomettes – or eaten in their private dining car:

  • Lunch & Dinner, hot items: Chicken Penne Alfredo, Beef Provencal, Asian Noodle Bowl; chilled item: Antipasto Plate
  • Deluxe Continental Breakfast, hot items: Oatmeal, Breakfast sandwich; chilled items: Muffins, Yogurt, Fresh Fruit, Hard-boiled eggs, cereals

Customers are also offered unlimited soft beverages, a complimentary serving of beer, wine or a mixed-drink during their trip and an amenity kit, all included in their fares. A Kosher meal is provided with advance notice and children’s meals are also available. Menus for both trains are on Amtrak.com.

The Capitol Limited (Trains 29 & 30) operates daily between Washington, D.C., and Chicago, via Pittsburgh and Cleveland. The Lake Shore Limited (Trains 48 & 49) operates daily between Chicago and New York, via Albany (Rensselaer), with a section to and from Boston (Trains 448 & 449).
