Making Wishes Come True — One Train Ride at a Time

Last month, Amtrak had the honor of helping Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area grant 3-year-old Joseph’s wish to have a train experience.

The day’s train themed adventure began at Emeryville Station, where the family was welcomed with smiles, refreshments, and a sense of joy. From there, the group boarded the San Joaquins for a ride on the train – complete with celebratory overhead announcements recognizing our special guest.

After riding the train, the journey continued to our Oakland Maintenance Facility, where Amtrak President Roger Harris warmly greeted Joseph and his family and shared in the joy of the moment. The young train fan also got to step into the conductor’s seat with our train simulator – which featured a personalized welcome banner, and to make the experience even more special, virtual animals appeared along the route.

This local rail adventure offered a heartfelt way to create joy and memories—not only for Joseph, but for his family and our entire community. We’re deeply grateful to be a part of this wish and thankful to Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area for granting the wishes of so many local children. Thank you as well to our partners at Capitol Corridor, San Joaquins, and Union Pacific for bringing this day to life.

Trains don’t just connect places, they connect people, families, and communities. And, on this very special day in May, Joseph’s wish came true.
