Amtrak has been upgrading our technology, fleet, stations and processes to make travel as seamless and safe as possible. This includes upgrades to the Amtrak app, where customers can book, get boarding information, and check train status from a mobile device and receive real-time information before boarding. We’ve also been focusing on making the experience touch free, including contactless boarding, scanning tickets directly from the Amtrak app and installing new kiosks, which we will be rolling out throughout the year.

More information and multimedia assets about all of Amtrak’s enhanced health and safety measures can be found below.

General Information

Funding Requests

  • Amtrak: Additional Funding Needed Soon to Avoid Additional Service and Employment Reductions (10.8.20)
    • Following regular discussion with Congress about our federal funding needs for Fiscal Year 2021, Amtrak submitted a letter to Congress formalizing our ongoing request for up to $4.857 billion this fiscal year for Amtrak and our partners. Additionally, as Congress considers programs for stimulating the economy, Amtrak has identified $5.193 billion in additional investments as part of an economic recovery proposal to help the nation recover from the impacts of the pandemic, for a total federal investment of $10.050 billion. This includes critical projects, such as replacing bridges and tunnels on the Northeast Corridor, new fleet, infrastructure improvements throughout our national network, and major station improvements. If this additional $5.193 billion investment is made, Amtrak anticipates that, based on various transportation studies, more than 75,000 jobs could be created, while building for the future needs of America’s traveling public.
  • Amtrak: Supplemental Funding Needed to Maintain Minimum Service Levels (5.26.20)
    • Amtrak submitted a letter to Congress outlining an additional $1.475 billion in supplemental funding needed in FY 2021. This additional funding is necessary for Amtrak to operate minimum service levels across the passenger rail network and continue capital investments for the future. The funds would also support Amtrak’s 17 state partners on the National Network and nine commuter and state partners on the Northeast Corridor.

Service

  • Amtrak Statement: Aligning Services to Current Travel Needs (8.17.20)
    • We are sharing with customers our new schedules for reduced Long Distance train frequencies that are planned to go into effect this October. Making these new schedules available now will help customers plan for future trips and adjust existing trips impacted by these changes. These reductions in frequencies are a result of the dramatic reduction in travel demand due to the Coronavirus pandemic and follow steps we’ve already had to make across our other services lines across our network.

Partnerships

Donations

  • Amtrak Donates Blankets to the Javits Center (5.7.20)
    • Amtrak has partnered with Delivering Good to donate surplus blankets to military-run hospitals at the Javits Center who are caring for patients impacted by the Coronavirus crisis. This is the first step as part of a larger, nationwide donation resulting from enhancements to Amtrak’s long distance services that are being implemented this year.
  • Amtrak Makes Nationwide Food Donation (5.6.20)
    • Amtrak has been dedicated to serving customers for almost 50 years. While Amtrak continues to operate as an essential service for those who must travel during this difficult time, select trains have been temporarily suspended due to reduced demand. Fewer trains in operation has resulted in a surplus of food supplies. In addition to serving essential workers on the front lines of this public health crisis, Amtrak is donating the extra food to shelters to help those in need during this unprecedented time.
