Take Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner or Coast Starlight to the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, April 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Alameda Park in downtown Santa Barbara.

Amtrak is a presenting sponsor of the Capital Pride Festival’s Green Village where attendees can learn about energy-efficient travel and sustainability efforts at America’s Railroad®. The Capital Pride Festival will take place on June 8 in Washington, D.C.
Amtrak is doing more to solidify its energy efficiency and highlighting a project this Earth Day that replaces the engines in two locomotives with new energy-efficient generator sets at terminals that switch railcars between trains and in shop facilities. The newly-repowered Generator Set “GenSet” locomotives are now used daily in Washington, D.C. Amtrak previously began using GenSet locomotives in Los Angeles, Oakland and Chicago.
Amtrak recently joined the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) as part of the railroad’s efforts to contribute to the nation’s environmental health by improving energy efficiency, reducing fossil fuel consumption and attracting more automobile and airline travelers to passenger rail.
Amtrak is an energy-efficient mode of transportation, and America’s Railroad® is taking the opportunity during Earth Month to highlight practices and tactics for improved fuel and energy conservation.
Earth Month activities at Washington Union Station will feature daily event offerings to include exhibits and activities such as an alternative energy show, a youth art contest and the NASA Earth Tent.
