Amtrak today released renderings and other information about the first of the diesel-electric locomotives that will replace the current fleet on the National Network, including all long distance and many state-sponsored routes.

PORTLAND, MAINE – The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA) announced today that the Amtrak Downeaster will begin operating four round-trip trains between Brunswick, ME and Boston, MA every day beginning on Monday, July 20, 2020 as it enters Phase 2 of service restoration.
PORTLAND, MAINE – The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA) announced yesterday that the Amtrak Downeaster will begin Phase 1 of Service Restoration beginning June 15, 2020. Service will resume with one round trip on weekdays only between Brunswick, ME and Boston, MA: southbound Train 680 and northbound Train 685. Downeaster service has been suspended since April 13, 2020.
CHICAGO – Beginning June 1, Amtrak and our partner state transportation departments are restoring a Hiawatha Service round-trip between Milwaukee and Chicago in response to anticipated increased demand.
WASHINGTON – Beginning June 1, Amtrak is restoring Acela service on the Northeast Corridor on a modified schedule in response to anticipated increased demand. Modified service will include the restoration of three weekday Acela roundtrips. Northeast Regional frequencies will also be increased from eight to 10 roundtrips.
The Thruway Bus service substitution will be in effect through Monday, May 25. Hiawatha train service is expected to resume on Tuesday, May 26.
NEW YORK – Amtrak continues to prioritize upgrading the customer experience as travelers along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) will now benefit from increased weekday service on Northeast Regional trains at popular stations in Mystic, CT and Westerly, RI to receive more access to the region’s major markets. The new schedule, which largely alternates trains at these stations to provide more meaningful service, will go into effect beginning Monday, March 16.
NEW YORK – Amtrak is continuing its Infrastructure Renewal Program at New York Penn Station throughout Winter 2020 as part of its ongoing maintenance program to improve the Station’s infrastructure operations performance and reliability. Unlike previous years, this round of renewal work will not require any reductions or modifications in service for Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT trains or impact customers. Long Island Rail Road trains will have minimal schedule modifications, however, as a result of this work.

OAKLAND, Calif. – Nov. 6, 2019 – In anticipation of the busiest travel week of the year, Amtrak, the San Joaquins Joint Powers Authority (SJJPA) and the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) are prepared to accommodate the surge of holiday travelers with extra equipment and additional capacity on the Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins service. Tickets sell out quickly, so customers are encouraged to plan ahead and book early. Last year, the Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins saw a 65% increase in ridership the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and a 68% increase the Sunday following Thanksgiving.
