As the weather heats up and the busy summer travel season begins, it is more important than ever to remember to be safe around railroad tracks, including those used by the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner. The Pacific Surfliner travels along a 351-mile route between San Diego and San Luis Obispo, passing through small towns and big cities, with portions of the route hugging the Southern California coastline.

Amtrak is announcing preliminary schedules as part of the Infrastructure Renewal at New York Penn Station, a series of major track and switch renewal projects that will strengthen railroad infrastructure, operations and preparedness and, ultimately improve reliability at America’s busiest rail hub.
Just a reminder to be safe around railroad tracks every day and especially during the upcoming summer travel season. Amtrak San Joaquins trains travel through small towns and big cities – along country roads and down the middle of Main Streets on its way delivering passengers to summer travel destinations like the Bay Area and Sacramento.
Amtrak President and CEO Wick Moorman today announced a series of initiatives to strengthen railroad infrastructure and improve operations and preparedness at New York Penn Station, the nation’s busiest rail station and transportation facility.
Amtrak crews have restored service to all tracks at New York Penn Station. Passengers should expect residual delays throughout the morning, with scheduled operations resuming this afternoon. We apologize for the delays as we worked to make these repairs.
The major repair work at New York Penn Station has been completed and Amtrak forces are now currently testing and adjusting the installed components to ensure safe and reliable operation. We expect this work to be completed shortly this morning. During this additional period, Amtrak will prioritize the operations of NJ Transit and LIRR trains but passengers may experience some delays as service is returned to normal.
I apologize to everyone who has been inconvenienced by the recent delays and cancellations at New York Penn Station. It’s our job to make sure that commuters and intercity passengers can safely and reliably travel along the Northeast Corridor and we know we let them down with these recent derailments. Our customers and partners deserve better.
Federal, state and local officials joined together with SEPTA, Amtrak and their honored guests to officially break ground on the Paoli Station Accessibility Improvements Project, a $36 million initiative to improve accesibility, safety and provide operational flexibility at the Paoli Train Station.
In a hearing before the Senate Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security, Amtrak President and CEO Wick Moorman called for a new era of investment in Amtrak’s infrastructure, fleet, and stations, which are critical to the operations and future growth of passenger rail.
