More than 250 communities in every state celebrated the importance of trains to their town at National Train Day on May 11, 2013, a record for the annual event conceived by Amtrak six years ago.

The Amtrak board of directors is extending the contract of President and CEO Joe Boardman for his achievements in improving the operational and financial performance of America’s Railroad®, and to provide continuity of leadership critical to the ongoing implementation of the company’s strategic plan.

Francesco (Frank) McBride is the 2012 Amtrak Police Officer of the Year. Based in Philadelphia, Investigator McBride was assigned several high-profile cases, many of which involved the theft of copper wire from the Amtrak system.
The K9 video features animated talking dog characters explaining the ability of K9 teams to use their heightened sense of smell to detect suspicious vapors. In addition, the video teaches kids how to be safer around trains, railroad tracks and stations.

The success of the Northeast Corridor (NEC) has used up much of the legacy capacity of the existing railroad and depleted its infrastructure assets leading to a “major coming investment crisis that, without a solution, will mean strangled growth and deteriorating service” for 260 million intercity and commuter rail passengers who rely on it each year, Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman told a Congressional committee today.

Earth Month activities at Washington Union Station will feature daily event offerings to include exhibits and activities such as an alternative energy show, a youth art contest and the NASA Earth Tent.
