Amtrak San Joaquins Changes Schedule to Better Accommodate Passengers

STOCKTON, Calif. – On December 17, 2018, Amtrak® San JoaquinsSM will be adjusting its schedule to better accommodate weekend leisure travelers on San Joaquins trains 718 and 1701. San Joaquins train 718 will now operate full corridor to Bakersfield on Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays. Additionally, San Joaquins train 1701 will operate on a later, full corridor schedule from Bakersfield providing an afternoon arrival into Sacramento.

Amtrak Sets Revenue and Earnings Records Delivers Best Operating Performance in Company History

WASHINGTON – Continuing financial improvements in recent years, Amtrak again posted record revenue and earnings for its fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, 2018. Strong management and improved product delivery and customer service led the company to its best operating performance in company history, despite challenges during the year. Preliminary results for Fiscal Year 2018 are:

Operating Earnings[1]: ($168.0 million) – best Amtrak operating performance to date, improved 13.3 percent over FY 2017 total of $193.7 million
Ridership: 31.7 million customer trips –steady year-over-year, with growth offset by reductions due to service disruptions
Total Revenue1: $3.38b illion – increased 2.2 percent over FY 2017
Capital Investment1, [2]: $1.46 billion – the highest level of capital investment in recent Amtrak history

More Downeaster Trains on Track To Serve Freeport and Brunswick

PORTLAND, Maine – The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA), managing agency of the Amtrak Downeaster passenger rail service, has announced more train service to Freeport and Brunswick beginning Monday, November 12, 2018.

Currently, the Downeaster operates five (5) round-trips each day between Portland and Boston, with three (3) of those round-trips extending to Freeport and Brunswick. Beginning November 12, two (2) additional round trips will serve Freeport and Brunswick on weekdays (5 round trips total), with one additional trip on weekends (4 round-trips total).

Amtrak Downeaster to Expand Service in time for the Thanksgiving Travel Season

OAKLAND, Calif. – In anticipation of the busiest travel week of the year, Amtrak and the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) are preparing to accommodate the surge of holiday travelers with extra capacity on the Capitol Corridor train, which travels between Auburn/Sacramento and San Jose, including service to Berkeley, Oakland, and downtown San Francisco. The Capitol Corridor also serves a number of universities and as a result, will be adding extra bus trips before and after Thanksgiving for students traveling to and from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Chico State, and Humboldt State. Tickets sell out quickly, so customers are encouraged to plan ahead and book early, especially if they have a bus connection as part of their travel.
