Score demonstrates Amtrak’s commitment to disability equality and inclusion
WASHINGTON – Amtrak received the highest score possible on the 2023 Disability Equality Index (DEI®), scoring 100 out of 100 in this year’s assessment, demonstrating Amtrak’s ongoing commitment to furthering representation for employees and employee candidates with disabilities. As the company continues to foster a disability inclusive work culture, this is the second year in a row where Amtrak received a top score [1].
“We strive to foster a community of respect and inclusion for employees with disabilities,” said Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer Robert Grasty. “While the work is never over, this validates our efforts in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all employees.”
The DEI was created by the DEI Advisory Committee, a diverse group of business leaders, policy experts and disability advocates. Now in its ninth year, the DEI helps businesses make a positive impact on the unemployment and underemployment of people with disabilities.
The DEI was launched in 2015 by Disability:IN and The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and is acknowledged today as the most robust disability inclusion assessment tool in business. Using five central pillars, the 2023 DEI assesses companies according to the following criteria:
- Culture & Leadership
- Enterprise-Wide Access
- Employment Practices (Benefits, recruitment, employment, education, retention, advancement and accommodations)
- Community Engagement
- Supplier Diversity
Amtrak actively promotes diverse and inclusive behavior that empowers employees to reach their full potential. This includes employee resource groups with one dedicated to the disability community and its allies. The full report is available online at www.DisabilityEqualityIndex.org [2].
