More Downeaster Trains on Track To Serve Freeport and Brunswick

PORTLAND, Maine – The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA), managing agency of the Amtrak Downeaster passenger rail service, has announced more train service to Freeport and Brunswick beginning Monday, November 12, 2018.

Currently, the Downeaster operates five (5) round-trips each day between Portland and Boston, with three (3) of those round-trips extending to Freeport and Brunswick. Beginning November 12, two (2) additional round trips will serve Freeport and Brunswick on weekdays (5 round trips total), with one additional trip on weekends (4 round-trips total).

Amtrak Downeaster to Expand Service in time for the Thanksgiving Travel Season

PORTLAND, ME. – Just in time for the holiday travel season, the Amtrak Downeaster will be expanding weekday service of all trains to Freeport and Brunswick, Maine; four of five daily round trips will serve Freeport and Brunswick on weekends. Currently, the Downeaster makes five daily round trips between Portland and Boston with only three extending to Freeport and Brunswick.

Extra Amtrak Trains Scheduled in Northeast for Thanksgiving Travel

WASHINGTON – In anticipation of the busiest travel week of the year, Amtrak is accommodating the surge of holiday travelers, ensuring its passengers get to their Thanksgiving destination on time and safely with an enjoyable experience. Tickets sell out quickly, so customers are encouraged to plan ahead and book early.

In response to customer demand, Amtrak Acela Express (Boston – Washington, D.C.) and Northeast Regional (Boston – Virginia) services will operate extended schedules with additional frequencies and capacity during Thanksgiving week. Additional Northeast Corridor trains, including the Keystone (New York – Harrisburg) will require reservations in advance of travel. Regular Amtrak booking procedures apply.
