WASHINGTON – Amtrak is announcing its new summer sale, “Amtrak Across America” to help customers visit many destinations across the country for up to 30 percent off a standard fare. This special fare is available on Amtrak.com from Tuesday, July 31 through Friday, August 3 and valid for travel from Wednesday, August 15, 2018 to Thursday, February 28, 2019.
Amtrak investing $370 million in equipment to improve Corridor
WASHINGTON – Amtrak is investing $370 million over an estimated three-year period for new equipment that will improve the overall experience for those traveling along the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The purchase of this new equipment will double Amtrak engineering efforts on the NEC, accelerating maintenance work.
“More than 890,000 Amtrak customers and commuter passengers rely on the Northeast Corridor for transportation every weekday, and we are working to make their ride smoother and more reliable,” said Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Scot Naparstek.
Pontiac-Detroit-Ann Arbor-Chicago corridor welcomes bicycles
CHICAGO and LANSING, Mich. – Starting July 26, bicycles will be accepted aboard the Amtrak Wolverine Service (Trains 350-355), sponsored by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) with three daily round-trips between Pontiac and Chicago, via Detroit, Dearborn, Jackson and other stops.
There is a $10 charge in addition to the railfare. Bicyclists must make reservations to carry their bikes onto the trains and stow them at the direction of the Amtrak conductors.

WASHINGTON – Contemporary and fresh dining choices for sleeping car customers on Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited trains include a hot entrée in addition to chilled meals, starting this week.
“Our plan to provide fresh food choices now includes a hot option, which is based on engaging our sleeping car customers on what they would like and with special training for our train crews,” said Bob Dorsch, Vice President of the Amtrak Long Distance Service Line. “This contemporary style of service has been well received by customers, with meals of their choice and at times they choose. These customers also enjoy having exclusive use of the dining cars.”

WASHINGTON – During Amtrak’s “Northeast Regional July Flash Sale,” beginning Tuesday, July 10 through Friday, July 13, customers can plan their end of summer and fall break trips, weekend getaways and family vacations anywhere along the Northeast Corridor (between Virginia Beach and Boston), for travel between Wednesday, August 1 through Friday, November 9, with no blackout dates.

Chicago-St. Louis corridor now included in available itineraries
CHICAGO – In time for travel this summer and back-to-school this fall, the complete five-state Amtrak MidwestSM network will welcome dogs and cats on trains. The Chicago-St. Louis corridor, served by Lincoln Service and Texas Eagle trains, is the final addition to the pet-friendly policy following substantial completion of the major track improvements on that route.
