Book early this summer, save up to 20 percent off many trains
WASHINGTON – The busy summer travel season is quickly approaching. Amtrak is ready to take families on vacation to more than 500 destinations throughout the country. With large spacious seats, and plenty of space to stretch out or get up and move around, Amtrak is the convenient and easy way to travel. Customers are encouraged to book early with Saver Fares and save up to 20 percent on many trains. There are standard everyday discounts for everyone: kids (ages 2-12) ride 50 percent off, students and seniors (62 and over) receive a 15 percent travel discount.
In the Northeast, many museums are free in Washington, D.C., and in Maryland there are fairs and summer festivals for all ages. Customers traveling on Northeast Regional trains can enjoy day trips along the corridor between cities such as Richmond, Va., Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston. The Auto Train offers a unique service for passengers to travel from Lorton, Va., to Sanford, Fla., with their personal vehicles including cars, vans, SUVs, motorcycles, small boats or jet-skis.
In the Midwest, take Amtrak to summer music festivals in Milwaukee, Chicago and St. Louis or go to where roots of jazz, rock and the blues run deep in Kansas City, Memphis or New Orleans. On the west coast, large summertime festivals take place in San Diego, Los Angeles, Oxnard, Santa Barbara, and Gilroy, Calif. Several rose festivals will be in full bloom in Wasco, Calif., and Portland, Ore. Seattle will host the annual Seafair Festival along Puget Sound.
Customers can take their pets along with them on the family summer vacation. Amtrak welcomes dogs and cats up to 20 pounds for trips of up to seven hours on most routes.
