More seating capacity added due to near sell-outs on some trips
WINTER PARK, Colo. – With less than a month until the first train pulls out of Denver’s Union Station, CenturyLink has joined Amtrak and Winter Park Resort to become the presenting sponsor of the weekend rail service from Denver to the base of Winter Park Resort, now formally known as the Amtrak Winter Park Express presented by CenturyLink. As part of the sponsorship, three cars and one locomotive will be wrapped in the CenturyLink brand and will be used as part of Amtrak California Zephyr service prior to the Winter Park Express’ inaugural journey on Jan. 7.
When not helping skiers and snowboarders avoid I-70 & U.S. 40 traffic every weekend (and two holiday Mondays) through March 26, the Amtrak train will be on view at Union Station.
“Our growing partnerships will help ensure the Winter Park Express will be a success this season and in those to come,” said Mark Murphy, Amtrak Senior Vice President and General Manager responsible for the service.
“CenturyLink is excited to be part of the launch of the new Winter Park Express ski train service as it connects Denver ski enthusiasts to the Winter Park Resort,” said Rich Karlis, director of corporate sponsorships for CenturyLink. “Riders will be greeted by railcars wrapped in company branding and know that in addition to being their ‘link to what’s next’, CenturyLink will also be their link to Winter Park Resort.”
“We’re delighted to have CenturyLink join in the frenzy that has surrounded the Winter Park Express,” said Gary DeFrange, Winter Park Resort President/COO. “News of the return of passenger rail service from Denver to Winter Park has not only been the talk of Colorado, but it has generated immense excitement throughout the nation and even internationally. We’re thrilled to have CenturyLink, a partner with such a sterling reputation in the state, help us bring this iconic tradition back to the people of Colorado and beyond.”
Train tickets are currently on sale at Amtrak.com/WinterParkExpress and have been selling steadily since the announcement of the train’s return was made at the end of August. With some weekends approaching sell-out levels, capacity is being added. Amtrak and the resort have also taken steps to make it easier for groups to book travel or even obtain exclusive occupancy of railcars with upgraded service and ski packages, subject to availability.
