WASHINGTON — Amtrak is a presenting sponsor of the Capital Pride Festival’s Green Village where attendees can learn about energy-efficient travel and sustainability efforts at America’s Railroad®. The Capital Pride Festival will take place on June 8 in Washington, D.C.

The company will showcase its commitment to protecting the environment and encourage passengers to Travel Green® with Amtrak. Visitors stopping by the Amtrak booth will enjoy family activities and games, learn about passenger rail service to more than 500 destinations and have an opportunity to win free round-trip travel vouchers to experience Amtrak travel on the Northeast Corridor.

“At Amtrak, we want passengers to know when they travel by rail, they choose to travel green and minimize the carbon footprint of their trip,” said Amtrak Director of Sustainability Celia Pfleckl. “For Amtrak, corporate sustainability means operating in a way that creates longterm value.”

In 2013, Amtrak joined the Carbon Disclosure Project to report on sustainability initiatives specific to climate change. As a member, Amtrak is able to benchmark performance against industry peers and work toward improving its sustainability efforts, including initiatives such as recycling, fuel and energy conservation, and sustainable building design.
