Beat I-80 traffic to the best snow in years

OAKLAND – On Fridays and Sundays now through Feb. 14, Amtrak will be adding an extra Superliner coach car to the California Zephyr between Emeryville, Calif., and Reno, Nev., to accommodate passengers traveling to what is being called “the best snow” in more than a decade in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Passengers can avoid the highway congestion on I-80 and relax onboard the train while enjoying the great scenery. Many hotels are only steps away and most offer shuttles to ski and snow parks for a fun weekend getaway.

Train schedule as follows:

Train 6 (Emeryville-Reno) Train 5 (Reno-Emeryville)
Friday, January 15 Sunday, January 17
Friday, January 22 Sunday, January 24
Friday, January 29 Sunday, January 31
Friday, February 5 Sunday, February 7
Friday, February 12 Sunday, February 14

The California Zephyr operates daily between San Francisco/Emeryville and Chicago. Reserve a spacious coach seat or, for a more luxurious experience, reserve a roomette or bedroom in one of the Superliner Sleeping cars.
