Amtrak is offering passengers traveling through Chicago Union Station in December several opportunities to celebrate the season with a free concert series, the only Amtrak gift shop in the country and an exhibit on transportation in the Chicago area.
Amtrak, in partnership with the city of Norfolk, has deployed new, electronic, ADA-compliant passenger information displays (PIDS) at the train station. In addition, customer service representatives are on staff and available to assist passengers in purchasing tickets and providing other travel information.
Amtrak has added a member with deep local expertise in regional issues to the blue ribbon panel of rail and transportation leaders to identify infrastructure and operational improvements to address the rail traffic gridlock in Chicago. The unprecedented level of rail congestion is causing major delays for Amtrak passengers and freight shipments which are damaging to the U.S. economy.
Amtrak is earning industry awards for its business transformation that has reduced costs, restructured performance management and differentiated pay, strengthened career growth and development opportunities, implemented best-in-class recruitment and retention strategies, and created a Total Rewards compensation and benefits structure.
